Cottage Renovation 2002
Gluckman Mayner Architects
David Taber, Project Architect

Designed by McKim, Meade & White and sited by Fredrick Law Olmstead, the “7 Sisters” were originally hunting and fishing cottages, located at the tip of Long Island. After several years of neglect, the Deforest Cottage, now a private residence, required major renovation. The client’s interest in restoring the historical accuracy of the house called for extensive research. Almost every exterior component required replacement while the interior renovation was similar in scope. Contemporary insertions such as stainless steel kitchen components showcase the traditional vocabulary of the original 1883 interior.
